The atmosphere in Dortmund was fenomenal, only a bit dampened by Leverkusen winning 3-2. We had seats in the middle of dortmundfans, so we too had hide our joy over Leverkusen's victory.”

Bayern Munich ran riot in the second leg, as Atletico Madrid suffered an emphatic 4-0 defeat to lose the final. Uli Hoeness put the Bavarians ahead in the 28th minute to establish a strong start. Gerd Muller scored twice in the second half to make it 3-0 before Hoeness doubled his tally for the night with another goal in the 83rd minute to condemn Atletico Madrid to an agonizing defeat.
Bayern Munich did not stop there. The German giants won the next two editions of the European Cup in the 1974/75 and 1975/76 seasons, making it three consecutive titles. Bayern Munich beat Leeds United in the 1974/75 final, with Franz Roth and Gerd Muller scoring the goals that gave the Bavarians a 2-0 victory in Paris.
Bayern Munich won its third consecutive European Cup against French side Saint-Etienne. That season, Bayern Munich was one of the best teams in the competition, beating seasoned giants like SL Benfica and Real Madrid in the quarter-finals and semi-finals, respectively. Franz Roth scored the only goal in the final to give Bayern Munich its third consecutive European Cup title.
On the other hand, Inter Milan is no stranger to the UEFA Champions League. The Italian giants have won the competition thrice, including two successive titles in the 1963/64 and the 1964/65 seasons. The first victory came against Real Madrid, as Italy made history by becoming the first country with two winners in the competition.
Inter Milan had beaten Partizan Belgrade and Borussia Dortmund in the quarter-finals and the semi-finals, respectively. The 4-2 semi-final win over Dortmund was memorable, as Inter beat the German side 2-0 at home after a 2-2 draw in the first leg.
Despite going into the final as the underdog, the Italian giants upset the odds by beating Real Madrid 3-1. Alessandro Mazzola scored the first goal in the 43rd minute to give Inter the lead before Aurelio Milani doubled it on the hour mark. Real Madrid pulled one back in the 70th minute but only got the perfect response from Inter, as Mazzola doubled his tally in the 76th minute to hand his team its first European Cup title.
Inter won it again the following season by beating Benfica on its home turf in Italy. Jair da Costa scored the game’s only goal to make it three consecutive European Cup titles for an Italian club, as AC Milan had won it the year before Inter Milan’s incredible run.
The Italian giants did not win the trophy for the next 45 years until Jose Mourinho made history with the club in the 2009/10 season. The Portuguese tactician masterminded a treble-winning season for Inter, as the club won the Scudetto, the Coppa Italia, and the UEFA Champions League, becoming the first Italian team to achieve this feat. Thanks to Diego Milito's brace, Mourinho and his men beat Bayern Munich 2-0 in the final.
