The atmosphere in Dortmund was fenomenal, only a bit dampened by Leverkusen winning 3-2. We had seats in the middle of dortmundfans, so we too had hide our joy over Leverkusen's victory.”

Borussia Monchengladbach is a club that has always defied expectations. During Borussia Monchengladbach’s emergence in German football, Bayern Munich was the real deal in the country. However, the Foals were up to the task, displacing the Bavarians for a few years by winning back-to-back Bundesliga titles in 1970 and 1971. Bayern returned to the summit of German football for two seasons before Monchengladbach retook the reign, and this time, the Foals won the title thrice in a row between 1975 and 1977.
Monchengladbach also reached the European Cup (now the UEFA Champions League) final in 1977, beating bigger teams like Dynamo Kyiv, Club Brugge, and Torino en route to the big stage. However, the run ended with a 3-1 loss to Liverpool in the final. The Foals also claimed its third DFB-Pokal title in the 1994/95 season, which was the last time they won any major title in German football.
Wolfsburg also has a rich history in German football, although the Wolves haven’t won as many titles as Borussia Monchengladbach. VFL Wolfsburg became a Bundesliga champion for the first time in the 2008/09 season, shifting the balance. The club’s two main strikers scored more than 20 goals each, making Wolfsburg the only team to achieve this feat. These goals helped the club secure the Bundesliga title at the end of the season.
